Deadpool, Cable, Younblood Creator @ Frank and Son Collectible Show

Rob Liefeld, Co-Creator of well know characters such as Deadpool, Youngbloods, X-Force's Cable will make an appearance at the Frank and Sons Collectible Show.

Gundam Unicorn: What We Know So Far About The Anime

Gundam Unicorn exists in the same "Universal Century" time line as the original Gundam produced by Sunrise. The serialized versions of Unicorn ended in the August 2009 issue of monthly magazine Shonen Ace and the final compiled volumes (#9 & #10) were released there after. In an earlier interview with author Harutoshi Fukui mentioned that the Anime would be a bit of a reconstruction as screenwriter Yasuyuki Muto's ideas had also been incorporated but the final product would remain faithful to the novel.

It's also been announced that there is a planned worldwide simultaneous release.

Bandai Visual confirmed that the anime will be released in six 50 minute OVA, direct to video, releases (WAY TO MILK IT BANDAI!). Expect to see the first Blu ray/DVD release in Spring 2010.

English language translation is confirmed. Originally set for Winter 2009 the delay to Spring 2010 is likely due to the simultaneously worldwide release plan.

We speculate the simultaneous release will also hinder any would be fan translated to torrent downloading possible bootlegging peoples (We're just saying...).

DISNEY TO ACQUIRE MARVEL IN 4 BILLION DEAL

It looks like Mickey Mouse is SpiderMan's new boss. But as long as we don't see any Hannah Montanahs or Jonas brothers playing superheros I think we'll be OK.

"NEW YORK/LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Walt Disney Co agreed buy Marvel Entertainment Inc for $4 billion in a deal that would add characters such as Iron Man, Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four to its entertainment empire.

Disney is striking the biggest media deal of the year -- one that unites the Incredible Hulk and Mickey Mouse -- at a time when the entertainment business is struggling to cope with big spending cutbacks by both consumers and advertisers.

It is also paying a substantial price, a 29 percent premium for Marvel shareholders, and is undertaking its largest acquisition since the $7.6 billion purchase of Pixar in 2006.

But none of those risks deterred Disney from seeking out a deal to address an area of concern among investors: How can it better reach more young males.

"This helps give Disney more important exposure to the young male demographic that they have sort of lost some ground with in recent years," said David Joyce, an analyst with Miller Tabak & Co.

Indeed, Disney has long been a blockbuster brand with girls thanks to characters such as "Hannah Montana," "Cinderella" and "Snow White," but has struggled to achieve the same kind of success with boys.

Movies such as "Iron Man 2," due to hit the theaters next year, or 2011's "Spider-Man 4" and "Avengers" should help resolve that issue.

Moreover, Disney will be able to use its marketing and entertainment might -- stretching from ABC to cable television to theme parks -- to promote and build characters such as "Thor" in ways Marvel never could.

To acquire Marvel, Disney agreed to pay a total of $30 per share in cash plus about 0.745 Disney shares for each Marvel share they own. The deal was approved by the boards of both companies.

The shares of Marvel, which was founded in 1939 and rolled out its first blockbuster character, Captain America, in 1941, shot up to a high of $49.29 before falling a bit to $48.38 in afternoon trading.

Disney approached Marvel a few months ago "to get to know them," Disney Chief Financial Officer Tom Staggs told Reuters on Monday. The overture began with a meeting between Disney Chief Executive Robert Iger and Marvel CEO Ike Perlmutter and evolved into merger discussions over a series of meetings, Staggs said.

"We at Disney had admired them because of their position and asset base," Staggs said. "With conversations over time we came to believe in the value of a combination."

The shares of Disney, which will acquire ownership more than 5,000 Marvel characters, were down about 3.5 percent in afternoon trading. The deal is expected to close by year-end, but will not add to Disney earnings until fiscal 2012.

The acquisition came as a surprise, even though Iger had mentioned recently the company would consider acquisitions that bolstered Disney brands across international markets and on new technology platforms.

While it could kick-start more deal making in the media sector -- where stocks have outperformed the broader Standard & Poor's 500 this year -- few analysts see another bidder making a play for Marvel.

Citigroup analyst Jason Bazinet said that in addition to bolstering their standing among young males, the deal could help Disney throughout its television, movies, and amusement park properties."

"Police in Kasai City near Kobe have arrested a 29-year-old factory worker named Yoshifumi Takabe on suspicion of burning down his own home on Sunday. The suspect reportedly doused his room with kerosene and lit it with a lighter around 2:10 p.m. on Sunday. The resulting fire eventually burned down the two-story house, which was about 250 square meters (about 2,700 square feet) and made partially from wood.

The police investigators say that the suspect had doused himself with kerosene, but had escaped the fire without injuries. His 55-year-old mother was also in the house but escaped without injuries. According to the police, the suspect said that his mother had gotten rid of his "valuable" Gundam plastic models, so he wanted to kill himself."

Some people can really go overboard but as long as you aren't burning down houses (especially when they aren't yours) all the power to you.

Giant Gundam on Playstation Home

"This is a strange case of fiction mimicking fact mimicking fiction.

Sony and Namco Bandai are teaming up to bring a giant Gundam unit to PlayStation Home. The digital replica of the anime icon will appear in the Japanese virtual world's central plaza starting Saturday at 11:00PM.

The tie-up is in celebration of two things. First up is the September 3 Japanese release of the PlayStation 3's latest Gundam game, Gundam Senki.

But perhaps more than that, Sony and Namco Bandai are celebrating the recent unveiling of a life-sized Gundam model in Tokyo's Odaiba area. You can see some pics of that at Flickr.

I'm not sure if this is the same one they now have standing but neat nonetheless.

So Cal HD Channel 18.2

United Television Broadcasting (UTB), the Southern California station that describes itself as "the first 24-hour Japanese digital television channel in North America," will officially premiere Kadokawa Pictures' The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya anime series on Saturday. It has been already airing the Eureka Seven, Fantastic Children, The Third: The Girl with the Blue Eye, true tears, sola, D.I.C.E., and Nihongo Dekimasu anime projects. In addition, it airs the following manga-based live-action projects: Bloody Monday, Tomie, MPD Psycho, Gokusen, and Hotaru no Hikari.

UTB officially launched its digital programming on May 1 on the 18.2 digital channel, although it started some programming beforehand. (The Southern California station KSCI had carried the FUNimation Channel on the 18.3 digital channel from 2006 until 2007.) The transition from analog television broadcasts to digital will finish throughout the United States on June 12.

Just remember that the only way to get this channel is through an over the air antenna.
